Our Mission
The Light up my Generation foundation , established in 2024, is a beacon of hope and change, dedicated to creating a better tomorrow for future generations in Suriname. The foundation's mission is clear and compelling: to bridge the education gap for children from low-income families, empowering them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in life.
Our vision
Share our vision to create a better tomorrow for our future generation.
The light up my Generation foundation envisions a world where every child, regardless of their financial background, has access to quality education and the necessary tools to thrive. By fostering a network of support and resources, the organisation is committed to nurturing the growth and development of children, ensuring they can build self-sustainable lives, embark on entrepreneurial ventures, and secure high-level jobs that align with their purpose and potential.
- **Educational Empowerment:** By providing financial support for education, our organisation aims to break the cycle of poverty, enabling children to pursue academic excellence and achieve their dreams, innovate and lead with unique perspectives and talents.
- **Sustainable Development:** Our organisation seeks to cultivate a generation of self-sufficient individuals who can contribute to their communities and the broader society, fostering sustainable growth and development in Suriname.
- **Long-Term Commitment:** Sponsors are encouraged to support a child for at least three years, with the hope of extending their commitment for a longer period. This long-term backing ensures that children receive consistent support throughout critical stages of their education.
Achievements and Future Prospects
In its early stages, The Light up my generation foundation is garning support from compassionate sponsors worldwide, creating a robust network dedicated to the shared vision of educational equity.
As the The light up my generation foundation continues to grow, it aims to expand its reach, embracing more children in need and amplifying its impact. Future initiatives include developing comprehensive mentorship programs, enhancing digital learning platforms, and establishing a scholarship fund for higher education.
Our financial strategy is focused on long-term sustainability. By obtaining pledges for 12 euros per month over a minimum of three years, we can gather the necessary funds. With careful investments, we will reach the minimum amount required to support one child.
Central to the foundation’s approach is its innovative sponsorship program. With the goal of securing one sponsor per child, the program invites individuals and organisations to pledge a membership of 12 EUR per month. These funds are meticulously allocated to cover tuition fees, online courses, and essential educational equipment, including laptops, school supplies, and other study materials for children in Suriname.
Another crucial goal for our organisation is implementing a plan that supports breakfast programs. By ensuring that children start their day with a nutritious meal, we can improve their learning outcomes and contribute to their overall well-being.
Learning on an empty stomach is an unfortunate daily reality for many children who suffer from undernourishment. Undernourishment not only hampers concentration and information retention but also impacts the overall development of the brain. Consequently, a child’s ability to learn is significantly compromised. Scientific research has proven that learning on an empty stomach endangers not only immediate academic performance but also the prospects of a successful school career.
Our "Light up my Generation" foundation primarily focuses on the children of Suriname. Suriname is located in the northern part of South America, sharing borders with Brazil, French Guiana, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Suriname is renowned for encompassing one of the largest rainforests in the world. Once a colony of the Netherlands, Suriname gained its independence in 1975. The country's economy heavily relies on the exports of crude oil and gold.
fish, rice, and bananas also contributing significantly.
Despite its natural wealth, Suriname, with an estimated population of 613,000 people (as of 2021), faces substantial challenges. A significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line, indicating a critical need for our efforts.
The light up my generation foundation was founded by husband-and-wife Natascha Wright, & Alfred McCrary both experienced musicians who have travelled the world for many years. They now leverage their global connections to pursue their vision of a better world. Natascha's passion is centred on equal education and opportunities for children, supporting their talents to help them become leaders and find their unique paths. Alfred shares this passion and is also deeply committed to supporting the music industry and nurturing young talent to be creative and self-sufficient.
"The Light Up My Generation foundation", started with a big vision but a budget of 0, so they came up with the smart concept to enlists members to support children's education in Suriname and addresses child hunger, which adversely affects their ability to concentrate and excel in their studies. This long-term project aims to provide grants for children and families in need.
The light up my Generation foundation stands as a testament to the power of collective effort and shared vision. By investing in the education of children from low-income families, the foundation is planting the seeds for a brighter, more prosperous future for all. In the words of its founders, “Supporting the future generation is not just an act of charity; it’s an investment in a better world.”
